Are we there yet?

There have been many attempts to figure out as Marvin Gaye would say "what's going on?"

"What's happening?", "What's going on?", These are not catchphrases for songs that you might be familiar with and/or television shows named by some clever sitcom writer, these were social terms. During the 1960s there was a great deal of social activism in the United States and in other countries of the world. Many people were disillusioned by the atrocities taken place at the time, the loss of life and wars for which they themselves were not cognizant as to the justification.

There were a lot of social activist groups,
• the Black Panthers,
• Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters,
• Congress on Racial Equality (CORE)
• Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC)
• Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC)
• Berkeley Free Speech Movement
• Combahee River Collective
• National Organization for Women (NOW)
• The Redstockings
• Students for a Democratic Society (SDS)
• Vietnam Veterans Against the War
• Vietnam Moratorium Committee
• National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)
• Women Strike for Peace
• Yippies
You will find a great deal of speculation and opinion on the so-called social and civil rights movement that began in the late 50s and has continued to the present day. Although there have been strides in the acquiring the civil rights and/or social rights, the groups and the individuals all represent minorities, and until such time as the majority acknowledges the need for change, for integrity, for dignity, for unity, for the overall good and welfare of common men and women, children, the environment, living creatures everywhere, we are afraid that we will never get there anytime soon, Houston, America-we have a problem!

What is the state of our world?

We have people walking into schools with guns would only One aim and that is to kill, or the people who walk into a church, like the one in Texas, and just kill people who have nothing to do with their grievance. Have we gotten to the point where we take out our grievances with violence?

People have they really gotten this bad?

There are television shows whose main goal and objective is to highlight the violence committed by certain individuals. It is said that this brings better ratings, is that all we are concerned about? What about the loss of life?

The violence is getting out of hand, don't you think?

There was a time where all an individual had to worry about was someone making fun of them, with words, then it went to the pushing, shoving, spitting. Now people would rather take a life, it's easy Isn't it? I mean it looks so simple on television!

Did you know that somehow it is now somewhat of a crime to be a loner?Since when is it that a person choosing to mind their own business and not bother anyone else,, to stick to themselves, since when is this a crime?

"She said she didn't love me, so I shot her"

Has killing become so normal that it's the accepted reality? Everyone, something is wrong, everyone insist on being right, and when you tell them that they are not correct they get offended, instead of taking the new information and adding it to their repository so that they can be correct in the future, isn't it a shame? There is a group called the Commodores, and they sang a song called zoom, don't we all feel like we want to get away?

Is Wikipedia a good source for information?

Information is powerful, with the right information one can become the richest person in the world and with the wrong information one can become the poorest person in the world, where do you get your information? Have you heard of the yellow news?

Wikipedia, Wikipedia is a form by which individuals contribute information to articles that are written, when the organization was first founded and started individuals would contribute to the articles that was posted on the website, and in those articles would be published. There was no check or balance to verify the information being published, after some criticism they, the organization that runs Wikipedia, implemented safeguards so as to assure the generating of more accurate information.

If there was to be direction given, we would advise that an individual use Wikipedia as a secondary source, and the encyclopedia as a main source for gathering research information. If an encyclopedia is not available, we suggest individuals go directly to the source of the information being considered.

Here are our reasons: First and encyclopedia is written by a group of individuals who are experts in their field, these individuals have staked their reputation on the accuracy of the information being provided, i.e. more reliable then information gathered by one person from one source. The professors and lawyers and scholars who help put together encyclopedias and/or other publications are more concerned about their legacy than they are about notoriety such as individuals who want to be famous. Once a expert publishes a paper, and or has signed on to publish information, they are staking their reputation on the information being considered, i.e. taking responsibility. Where as the single writer single publisher stands alone as the sole entity validating the work, which is not as reliable as 7 to 38 people validating information.

Wikipedia, Wikipedia will also publish case law, publication reference, and other research gathering materials to validate where their information came from, which is why there is a suggestion that individuals go to the source first to verify the information and then Wikipedia, because Wikipedia gathers the information, and it is purported that the information is gathered from sources of original nature. So would it not be advisable to go to the source when attempting to find out about something as opposed to simply just winging it, taking someone's word for?

So is Wikipedia a good source for research information? We believe that it is, however, we believe that it should be relied upon as a secondary source and not as a main source for gathering information.

Yellow news-fake journalism,, have you heard?
Many people have, custom  in our present day of hearing the term “fake news” — media outlets adopting sensationalism to the point of Creating new catchphrases in this — is nothing new. Although, as Robert Darnton Commented in the NYRB recently, the peddling of public lies for political gain (or simply financial profit) can be found in most periods of history dating back to antiquity, it is in the late 19th-century phenomenon of “Yellow Journalism” that it first seems to reach the widespread outcry and fever pitch of scandal familiar today.

There is another word for yellow journalism, and that's propaganda. In this age of the Ruford Murdoch's And the Clearwater networks,, to the Ted Turner's, as long as our media  is spoonfed to us through several singular limited organizations, they control the narrative, they control  what is and is not believed. How many times have a story broken, and we are told the facts before there is an investigation? In the latest school shootings, the latest suspect, we are told their so-called life's history before all the facts are gathered, And usually by close associates or acquaintances who are only attempting to receive their so-called 10 seconds of fame..

Why The term yellow? The No one is quite sure of the reason for this, it is believed that it is possible that the person who coined the phrase was referring to cowardice that's associated with the color yellow, that is one viewpoint. Some Speculate that it could be as a result of the yellow ink used in publications in times past, or from the popular Yellow Kid cartoon that first ran in Joseph Pulitzer’s New York World, and later William Randolph Hearst’s New York Journal, the two newspapers engaged in the circulation war at the heart of the furore.

Joseph Pulitzer the man for whom Pulitzer prize is coined and named after, Pulitzer purchased The New York World in 1884 and rapidly increasing circulation through the publication of sensationalist stories he earned the dubious honour of being the pioneer of tabloid journalism. So as you can see  journalism is no longer  journalism, journalism is now these days socialism, sensationalism, censorship, control-ism, what are we doing?

The rivalry between the different news outlets and a multi-conglomerate news agencies/corporations, each trying to out do each other with ever more sensational and salacious stories, can only get worse.

At a meeting of prominent journalists in 1889 Florida Daily Citizen editor Lorettus Metcalf claimed that due to their competition “the evil grew until publishers all over the country began to think that perhaps at heart the public might really prefer vulgarity”. Some of you might remember Lou Grant series, where the news editor and integrity, That they would not just print any story just to tell a story, they check the facts of the story first before producing  anything in their papers. That series was based off of the integrity and honesty that news editors were renowned for, we say was because that's not the case at present.

"The phenomenon can be seen to reach its most rampant heights, and most exemplary period, in the lead up to the Spanish-American War — a conflict that some dubbed “The Journal‘s War” due to Hearst’s immense influence in stoking the fires of anti-Spanish sentiment in the U.S. Much of the coverage by both The New York World and The New York Journal was tainted by unsubstantiated claims, sensationalist propaganda, and outright factual errors. When the USS Maine exploded and sank in Havana Harbor on the evening of 15 February 1898, huge headlines in the Journal blamed Spain with no evidence at all. The phrase, “remember the Maine, to Hell with Spain”, became a populist rousing call to action. The Spanish–American War began later that year." https://publicdomainreview.org/collections/yellow-journalism-the-fake-news-of-the-19th-century/

Have you heard the following island?
“Tristan da Cunha”?

 “Tristan da Cunha”

Well, prior to today neither had we, so let's take a journey to that island to see what it has to offer, what you say?
Tristan da Cunha, is an island located in the South Atlantic Ocean with a population of less than 300 people, the island is part of the group of volcanic islands and is the largest island of the group of islands associated with its nation.

Tristan da Cunha, having its location in the southern Atlantic Ocean is considered the most isolated island and/or community in the world (by civilized standards of course). Tristan da Cunha is a British colony/controlled nation, and the people there make a living off of farming, fishing and tourism. The government reports that the economic status of the island of Tristan da Cunha, is worse off than it was 20 years ago. If you wanted to live on the island of Tristan da Cunha, you could do so only as a renter, but you would be prohibited from buying land on the island, as no land is available to any outsider.

  • The government is actively trying to improve his economic standing and tourism as the entire island is invested, as it is a community ran and owned development. This means that the natives have a direct say so as they are directly invested in the future and in the economic standing of the island.
  • It has a unique wildlife, featuring a variety of bird species and see life some of which are indigenous to the island and found no other place. You may wish to visit their website to find out more about this unique island- http://www.tristandc.com/index.php
